The Department of Agricultural Engineering at Chirang Polytechnic, Bijni, Assam was established in 2020 with an intake capacity of 60 students and became fully functional from the academic year 2020–21 in October 2020. The department offers diploma courses aimed at applying engineering principles, scientific innovations, and modern technologies to the agricultural sector to promote sustainable, profitable, and enhanced agricultural production. These efforts contribute to meeting the growing food demands of both the state and the nation.

The course structure and syllabus have been carefully designed to develop skilled, competent, and technically sound agricultural engineers. The curriculum covers a wide range of core areas, including Farm Power and Mechanization, Irrigation and Drainage, Soil and Water Conservation, Surveying and Levelling, Post-Harvest Technology and Operations, Value Addition, Renewable Energy, Hydrology, Engineering Mechanics, and Strength of Materials.

To support effective learning, the department is equipped with well-established laboratories such as the Water Resources Laboratory, Farm Machinery Laboratory, Hydrology Laboratory, and Food Engineering Laboratory. These facilities provide students and researchers with valuable hands-on experience and practical knowledge, strengthening their technical competence and professional readiness.
